Primary 2/3 pupils at Noss school in Wick have been learning about the Titanic as their class topic, 111 years after the White Star liner sank in the North Atlantic. The Belfast-built liner was considered to be “unsinkable” but it went down off the coast of Newfoundland on April 15, 1912, after hitting an iceberg. There were some 2200 passengers and crew aboard and more than 1500 lost their lives.

Over the Easter holidays, the Noss pupils were given a challenge to design their own Titanic models. They took great pride in their efforts – using cardboard, bottles, paint, glue and even a few Lego designs – and were supported by their families. Class teacher Melissa Green said: “The pupils were excited learning how the Titanic sank and learning about the classes of passengers on board the ship.

They have created brilliant pieces of artwork and even designed their own authentic luggage label.” Mrs Green and fellow class teacher Ruth Taylor thanked everyone who contributed and the pupils for their hard work. The models have been on display in the school library.
