London Toy Fair 2023 starts today, and LEGO is attending
London Toy Fair 2023 gets underway today, and the LEGO Group is attending for the first time in three years - but can we expect to see new sets? The short answer is 'probably not'. The LEGO Group's presence at London Toy Fair, the first of two annual toy fairs scheduled for early 2023 (alongside Nuremberg Toy Fair - New York Toy Fair, traditionally held in February, has moved to the end of September), is typically a behind-closed-doors affair for retailers and press only.
That means that while new sets will likely be on display, they won't be visible to Joe Public. The LEGO Group hasn't attended London Toy Fair in a physical capacity since 2020. The 2021 event was cancelled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, while the company chose not to attend the 2022 event amid 'the continued high rate of the Omicron infection'.
But according to the exhibitor list and floor plan for London Toy Fair, the LEGO Group will once again be occupying an entire room to show off its new goodies.
London Toy Fair runs from January 24 to 26 at Olympia London, and visitor registration is still open - but if previous years are any indication, you'll need a prearranged appointment to tour the LEGO booth, so it's no good just rocking up and expecting to see the entire summer 2023 range. Fortunately, we don't have too long to wait to (hopefully) get our first idea of what's coming later this year. That's because Nuremberg Toy Fair, which this year takes place from February 1 to 5, is usually a good bet for either written descriptions or even initial images of new sets.
Those could be new releases for March all the way through to June, as the LEGO Group's launch calendar becomes ever more fractured. Keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for updates on news out of Nuremberg next week. Featured image: BHTA
